THE HOUSE

Cal Mandrat

The first historical records of the Cal Mandrat farm date back to 1880, although it could be older since there is evidence that it was passed down from father to son for two generations. For more than a century it was a typical Pyrenean farmhouse, where agriculture and livestock farming were practiced in their most humble forms. In 1970 the house and land were acquired by the current owner. He envisioned in this farm a life project that has been carried out for the last 50 years. Even today the farm continues to regenerate and grow.

THE CHAPEL

Just twenty meters from the farmhouse is the chapel of Santa Magdalena. It is a small and austere Romanesque church that was built between the 12th and 13th century. The construction is typical of the period, with a rectangular floor plan, a single nave and a semicircular apse with a central loophole window facing east.

When the family acquired the property, the chapel was practically abandoned and had been plundered. In the last decade of the last century it was completely restored using locally sourced materials.
